It's only right that I introduce myself, because why would you care about anything I have to say if you didn't at least know a little about me. I'm Joseph Tomkinson. I'm an award winning Full-stack Developer, now Head of Software Development. I've written apps, illustrated books, written corporate blogs and contributed to the Open Source Community. I have had a long and varied career in commercial software development as well as experience as a board member of a general charitable foundation (yet, often I still feel unaccomplished - Imposter syndrome is real!). So with that let me welcome you, the avid reader to "Coder to Corner Office," a collection of musings and (I hope) insightful blog posts on all things technology focused. I'll discuss Technical Leadership, Strategy, Architecture, Development Processes, and much more. So join me on this blogging journey and I hope some of it is found useful.

Professional Journey

I’ve always been passionate about technology and the endless possibilities it brings to solve real-world problems. With over a decade of experience in the IT industry, primarily in the commercial software sector, I’ve had the privilege of leading engineering teams and projects that pushed the boundaries of innovation and efficiency. My journey began as a software developer, deeply involved in crafting code and developing solutions that have impacted businesses and users globally.

Transition to Leadership

Currently, I serve as the Head of Software Development at Node4 Ltd, where I lead a dynamic team of software developers, DevOps engineers, and Test Analysts. My role revolves around strategic planning, fostering an Agile development environment, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, robust, and secure applications. My leadership philosophy is deeply rooted in mentorship, fostering innovation, and building high-performance teams.

Beyond the Office

Outside of the office, I was a Board Member of the risual Foundation, committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and strengthening communities through technology and education. I also founded Dev in a Box, a venture dedicated to creating high-quality Windows Desktop Applications and AI Illustrated books, aiming to deliver exceptional value and engaging user experiences.
